1984, Book Club.

Hi friends,

Today I wanted to write about the book that I'm reading in January! I'm only up to Chapter 3 so this isn't a proper book review but it's definitely one to put on your list!

1984 is written by George Orwell and it makes you think about the future of our society. It was written in 1949 about the future year of 1984. The main character is called Winston and is part of a society who are being controlled through fear, manipulating the minds of citizens. Individuality is suppressed and Winston decides to express his thoughts in a diary which is punishable by death.

There are so many clever concepts throughout the book. Orwell was imagining the future believing that there would be a telescreen which observes those watching it and that the world would consist of 3 megastates. Eastasia (China), Eurasia (the Soviet Union) and Oceania (USA, UK and their allies).

I don't want to give too much away about the story, I haven't even finished it myself yet, but so far it's a super interesting read and I'm so glad I'm ticking off one of my new years resolutions! (reading one book every month). What have you been reading recently? I'd love to know and put them on my wishlist!

Hope you're having a relaxing Wednesday!

Love & hugs,

  1. Oo this book actually sounds really interesting, definitely want to give it a read. It's cool to think about the ideas people back then have about their future that has already happened for us.
